Northumberland’s Family Hubs are proud to be supporting an annual campaign to end violence against women and girls and domestic abuse.
The United Nation’s annual international 16 Days of Activism begins on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, also known as White Ribbon Day, and ends on 10 December, Human Rights Day.
We will also be raising awareness of the support available to anyone affected by domestic abuse.
This year’s White Ribbon main campaign theme is “It starts with MEn” and highlights the role of men in changing the culture that allows violence against women and girls to take place.
A second theme of the campaign has been developed specially for children and young people to focus on healthy relationships and we will be sharing the message - “Kindness Starts with Me.”
Across the 16 Days we will be running a programme of activities for families to raise awareness of these complex issues and how we can all work together to bring about cultural change.
Around the hubs you will see lots of information and there will be orange and white activities to get involved with, which are the colours of the two campaigns. You may see some of our teams wearing a touch of orange too!
We’re inviting families to get creative and join our 16 Days “Rock Hide and Find.” Across our hubs, we’ll be decorating stones to share messages of kindness and hope for a brighter future. Why not get involved at home too?
Our teams will also be out supporting the Northumberland parkrun takeovers on Saturday November 23 – it would be great to see you there!
